Small stucco cracks are a natural occurrence, and it is normal to see them appear. Minor stucco cracks do not impact the structural integrity of the home. Some common reasons these cracks will occur include:
- Time. As the house ages and the stucco fully cures, it may crack. These are sometimes known as shrinkage cracks.
- House settling. Small movements as your home settles can cause small stucco cracks.
To minimize excessive cracking, keep your home at a temperature between 55 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, even when you’re gone for extended periods.
If you experience a stucco crack that exceeds the specifications in the Standards of Performance (1/8”), your New Home Warranty covers a one-time repair during your home’s first year. We typically recommend deferring the repairs until your home has been through three seasons of temperature/climate changes.
